Report: MediaTek Will Release an Arm Chip for PCs in 2025

Reuters reported today that MediaTek is among those companies that will deliver an Arm chip for Windows PCs after Qualcomm’s exclusivity window expires at the end of 2024.

Reuters has previously reported that AMD and Nvidia will also create Arm chips for Windows PCs in 2025, while other reports claim that Samsung could do so as well. The publication claims that Microsoft and Qualcomm have an exclusive arrangement, and Arm Holdings has indicated that multiple companies are on board to supply chips when that arrangement expires.

According to this new report, MediaTek’s PC chip will arrive in late 2025 though it’s not clear if PCs based on it will be branded as Copilot+ PCs. MediaTek is also partnering with Nvidia for its Windows on Arm chip, but that’s a separate project, Reuters says.

Microsoft and Qualcomm have been partnering on Arm chips for Windows PCs since 2016. To date, the resulting Qualcomm chips have been lackluster, but the newest chips, called Snapdragon X, are a significant improvement, one that could finally bring Windows on Arm to a mainstream audience. The first PCs using Snapdragon X chips go on sale in one week, on June 18.
