IDC Reports 2.5 Percent PC Sales Growth in Q1

The market researchers at IDC report that PC makers sold 65.6 million units in the first quarter, up 2.5 percent year-over-year (YOY).

“As expected, 2026 will be characterized by market share shifts,” IDC research vice-president Jean Philippe Bouchard says. “The strength of every PC vendor’s supply chain and ability to access core components, such as memory, will be tested. IDC believes that demand will be met by PC vendors who have best secured access to memory and with a device portfolio capable of addressing all price tiers of the market.”

IDC says that the growth the PC industry experienced in Q1 was driven by Windows 10 migrations, fears of rising component prices, and new product introductions. But growth has already fallen dramatically compared to the previous few quarters thanks to component shortages and inept U.S. government policies. And it’s likely that that trend will continue: IDC expects further decline in PC shipments as system prices continue to rise throughout 2026.

Lenovo was again the biggest PC maker, with 16.5 million units shipped and 25.2 percent market share, a gain of 8.6 YOY. HP was number two with 12.1 million units (down 4.9 percent) and an 18.5 percent share. And Dell was number three, with 10.3 million units (up 7.7 percent) and a 15.7 percent share. Apple (6.2 million units, up 9.1 percent, 9.5 percent share) and ASUS (4.8 million, up 17.1 percent, 7.2 percent share) rounded out the top five.
