Nvidia Teases “A New Era of PC” at Computex Next Week

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Computex

Nvidia has teased today “a new era of PC” ahead of the Computex annual trade show, which will kick off in Taipei on Tuesday, June 2. The company posted the coordinates of Taipei on a post X, and it happens that Computex starts on the same day as Microsoft’s Build developer conference in San Francisco.

Pavan Davuluri, EVP, Windows + Devices at Microsoft, also posted on X that “something new is coming for developers” at Build next week. The exec added that “no, it’s not a new OS version.”

After Qualcomm already made its ARM-based Snapdragon X2 series chips available for PC makers, Nvidia is expected to compete with two PC chips of its own, the N1 and N1X. Nvidia previously confirmed that it was working with MediaTek on the new chips, which will likely come with beefier GPUs than Qualcomm’s offerings.

Qualcomm has been the exclusive supplier of ARM-based chips for PCs for many years now, and the market for Windows on ARM PCs can only benefit from more competition. You may remember that Microsoft’s Surface RT from 2012 used an ARM-based Nvidia Tegra 3 chip, and it will be nice to see the progress Nvidia made on its PC chip designs over the past 14 years.

Earlier this week, Qualcomm also unveiled the Snapdragon C, a new entry-level chip designed for PCs that will cost $300 and up. Acer, HP, and Lenovo are among the first PC makers that are planning to use this new chip on new PCs coming to market soon.
