Apple to Require iPhone or iPad with Face ID For Vision Pro Pre-Orders

Apple Vision Pro (1)

Apple will open pre-orders for its Vision Pro headset next week on January 19, and the company detailed in an email to customers how the pre-order process will work (via 9to5Mac). There are several important details to be aware of, and the first thing is that you’ll need an iPhone or iPad with Face ID nearby.

“When you order Apple Vision Pro, you’ll need to scan your face with an iPhone or iPad with Face ID. This helps us determine the right size Light Seal and head bands, which work together to give you a precise fit,” the company explained in the email. The Face scan will require the Apple Store app, which is available to download from the App Store.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset is also designed to be used without corrective lenses, and the company has teamed up with Zeiss to create custom optical inserts that attach magnetically to the lenses. For customers who need them, these optical inserts will need to be purchased separately, with a choice between readers ($99) and prescription lenses ($149).

“When you order, we’ll ask a few quick questions to find out if you need optical inserts. If you do, you’ll upload a valid, unexpired prescription from a U.S. eye‑care professional after checkout,” Apple explained in the email.

Lastly, Apple will be offering demos of its Vision Pro headset at US Apple Stores when the headset launches on February 2. The company said that demo times will be available during the launch weekend on on a first-come, first-serve basis. Apple’s Vision Pro is priced at $3,499, so it may good idea to get a demo first before spending your hard-earned money on one.
