Linux Mint 22.1 “Xia” is a long-term support release of the popular Linux distribution that will be supported until 2029. It’s available now for clean installs and as an upgrade for Linux Mint 22 “Wilma,” from last July.
“Linux Mint 22.1 is a long-term support release which will be supported until 2029,” the Linux Mint blog notes. “It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.”
Linux Mint 22.1 delivers several new features, including Power mode and Night light functionality that will be familiar to Windows users. It includes Cinnamon 6.4, the latest release of the desktop environment, which adds a new default theme, new dialogs, improved compatibility with the Wayland display technology, and other improvements. And at a foundational level, Mint 22.1 delivers on a “thorough review and modernization of APT dependencies” that removed outdated components and streamlined the system’s package management tools and libraries.
Additionally, Linux Mint 22.1 features improvements to the Software Manager and new desktop wallpapers with support for system themes. The system is built on Linux kernel 6.8 and an Ubuntu 24.04 package base.
You can find (x86 only) ISO download links in the original announcement post. And those who wish to upgrade from version 22 will find instructions on the Linux Mint blog. The organization notes that future upgrades will be “trivial.”
