Three months after the release of Elementary OS 8.0, version 8.0.1 is here with some important hardware compatibility updates. Key among them is support for Intel “Lunar Lake” processors and improved performance on AMD processors, courtesy of the latest long-term support Hardware Enablement stack from Ubuntu, including the Linux 6.11 kernel.
“It’s been a little over 100 days since elementary OS 8 was released, and we’re proud to announce another round of updates, including a fresh new download,” Elementary founder and CEO Danielle Foré writes. “We’ve been hard at work this winter addressing issues that you reported and we’ve added a couple new creature comforts along the way. This bug fix release also includes the latest Ubuntu LTS Hardware Enablement Kernel, so it’s worth checking out if you downloaded OS 8.0 and it disagreed with your hardware.”
Key new features in this update include:
AppCenter improvements. Elementary’s app store now properly displays dark mode colors and screenshots (in the latter case, when provided by app developers), along with a few other design-related fixes.
System settings improvements. Now, you can configure which notifications that System settings displays. And it will no longer download updates on metered connections.
Fit and finish improvements. Elementary made dozens of fit and finish improvements across the system, including in the Installer, Panel, Quick settings, Dock, and Window manager.
Hardware compatibility improvements. Thanks to the inclusion of the latest long-term support Hardware Enablement stack from Ubuntu with including Linux 6.11, Elementary OS 8.0.1 offers improved performance when using AMD processors, support for Intel “Lunar Lake” processors, file system performance improvements, and support for more webcams, USB network devices, joysticks, and other devices. Elementary also made its own fixes for several hardware-related issues.
Like previous releases, Elementary 8.0.1 is available as a “pay what you can” download from the Elementary OS website.
