Apple released iOS 16.6, iPadOS 16.6, and macOS 13.5 yesterday to fix various security vulnerabilities affecting these platforms. There are no new consumer-facing features in these releases, however.

On iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6, Apple addressed security vulnerabilities in its Neural Engine, the OS kernel, the WebKit engine, and the Find My iOS app. For Mac users, macOS 13.5 also fixes vulnerabilities in the Apple Neural Engine (for Apple Silicon Macs), the OS kernel, Webkit, as well as the Find My, Shortcuts, and Voice Memos apps.

Apple usually releases software updates for all of its platforms at the same time, and yesterday was no exception. The company also shipped watchOS 9.6 and tvOS 16.6, and these are also security updates with no new features.

Earlier this month, Apple released the first public betas for iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. iOS 17 is already shaping up to be a pretty big update with a new StandBy mode for iPhones charging in horizontal mode, Live Voicemail, and offline maps support in Apple Maps. For Mac users, macOS Sonoma will bring widgets on the desktop, a new Game Mode, and various Safari updates including user profiles and the ability to install web apps. iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma are expected to be released later this fall.
