Google announced today that it’s expanding AirDrop support via Quick Share to more Android phones. Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor are planning to enable AirDrop compatibility with Quick Share this year, and Google said it has also worked with Apple to simplify the iOS-to-Android transfer process.

As you may remember, AirDrop support via Quick Share initially launched on select Pixel devices in November. Samsung followed up earlier this year with select Galaxy phones before expanding it to more models with the rollout of One UI 8.5 earlier this month.

While it may take some time for the aforementioned Android phone manufacturers to implement AirDrop support, Google worked on an alternative that requires the use of QR codes. “If you don’t have a compatible device, starting today, you can use Quick Share on any Android phone to generate a QR code, which will let you instantly share with iOS devices via the cloud. And soon, we’ll also be making Quick Share available inside some of your favorite apps, including WhatsApp,” Google said today.

Later this year, a new wireless iOS-to-Android transfer process will also allow iPhone users to seamlessly transfer their apps, homescreen layout, photos, messages, contacts, passwords, and eSIM to an Android phone. This new wireless transfer process will first come to select Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices.
