Google is rolling out a big update for its free mobile photo editor Snapseed that adds several new features on Android, iPhone, and iPad.
“Our goal with Snapseed 4.2 is to give you even more creative control over your workflow, making it easy to bring your favorite editing styles into Snapseed, share and learn from each other’s edits, and play with new tools,” the Snapseed teams writes in the announcement on Reddit.
Here’s what’s new.
Motion Blur. This new tool helps add a sense of speed to transform static photos into dynamic stories, the team says. You can blur the whole scene, streak the background behind a sharp subject for a panning effect, or put the motion right on the subject itself.
Depth-based Lens Blur. This new feature in the Lens Blur tool uses the depth of a scene to soften the background naturally. There’s also a Bokeh Boost to make highlights bloom into “creamy bokeh”. Gross.
Preset and LUT Import. You can now import presets and Look Up Tables, or LUTs (.cube, .xmp, .3dl, .png, and .snapseed formats) and share your own custom Looks, optionally with the LUTs they use.
Discover Community Looks (#SnapseedLook). This is a gallery of community-made Looks inside the Snapseed app. The Community Looks will rotate over time, and if you want your edits featured, you can tag them with #SnapseedLook to be considered for the gallery.
Color Grading. This is now rolling out on Android alongside LUT integration.
Landscape mode. You can now use Snapseed in landscape on iPhone and iPad.
Snapseed 4.2 is gradually rolling out on Android, iPhone, and iPad, the Snapseed team says. You can download Snapseed for Android in the Google Play Store, and you can download Snapseed for iPhone and iPad in the Apple App Store.
