Essential Phone Gets Android Oreo After All

It’s been roughly 5 months since Essential started working to bring Android Oreo to its PH-1 smartphone. After testing Android Oreo 8.0 for a couple of weeks, the company decided not to release the update and instead skip to Oreo 8.1.

Essential has been testing the Android Oreo 8.1 update with its beta testers since January, and it’s today rolling out the update to all Essential Phone owners. As Essential doesn’t reskin much of the pure Android experience, the company isn’t adding any new features to Android Oreo with today’s update.

Android Oreo includes a bunch of new features, such as improved notifications, battery life, and lots of other low-level features to improve stability and the overall experience of the OS. If you own an Essential Phone, you can get the new Oreo 8.1 update today by checking for updates.
