Google Store Now Sells Refurbished Pixel Devices

Refurbished Pixel at the Google Store

Google announced today that it is selling refurbished Pixel devices in the U.S. exclusively through the Google Store.

“Starting today, you can purchase refurbished Pixel phones through our new Certified Refurbished Phone program in the U.S.,” Google’s Prem Pandian writes. “For the first time ever, this provides more sustainable and affordable choices when it comes to Pixel phones. Shop previous generations of Pixel phones — from the Pixel 6 series onward — priced up to 40% off of the original retail price exclusively at the Google Store.”

According to Google, each device that it sells as refurbished is carefully inspected and, if necessary, repaired only with authentic Google parts. The devices are upgraded to the latest version of Android and then packaged in a new box with a compatible charger. And each gets a one-year warranty. “The result is a Pixel phone that’s as close to new as possible,” Pandian says.

Looking at the Certified Refurbished selection on the Google Store online, I see the following:

  • Pixel 7 Pro. Launched in 2022 at $899 and up, the refurbished version is available in Hazel, Snow, and Obsidian, and in 128, 256, and 512 GB storage configurations for $270 off, or $629 and up. Here’s my review.
  • Pixel 7. Launched in 2022 at $599 and up, the refurbished version is available in Lemongrass and Obsidian, and in 128 and 256 GB storage configurations for $170 off, or $429 and up.
  • Pixel 6 Pro. Launched in 2021 at $899 and up, the refurbished version is available in Stormy Black in a 128 GB storage configuration for $360 off, or $539. Here’s my review.
  • Pixel 6. Launched in 2021 at $599 and up, the refurbished version is available in Stormy Black, Kinda Coral, and Sorta Seafoam, and in 128 and 256 GB storage configurations for $260 off, or $339 and up.
  • Pixel 6a. Launched in mid-2022 at $499, the refurbished version is available in Charcoal, Chalk, and Sage, and in a single 128 GB storage configuration for $250 off, or $249. Here’s my review.

I assume available configurations will change in time. And that, better still, we’ll see non-phone devices like Pixel Tablet and Pixel Watch as well. And someday, maybe, international availability too. I guess we’ll see.
