Apple today quietly issued iOS 17.0.3, which among other things addresses the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max overheating issues.
“This update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected,” the updates notification notes.
Apple released the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and iOS 17 separately in September, and it then issued an interim iOS 17.0.1 update a few weeks later as part of a set of fixes that addressed critical vulnerabilities across its software platforms. But last week, Apple finally responded to widespread but sporadic reports about the new iPhone Pros overheating in certain conditions. And among the fixes it planned was a software update.
Well, iOS 17.0.3 contains that update, so we’ll soon find out whether it addresses the issues on affected devices. (I’ve not experienced overheating on my own iPhone 15 Pro Max.) And while the release notes for this update are not yet available, the list of security fixes it provides is. And so this update is available not just on the latest iPhones but on iPhone XS and later (with a corresponding update available for recent iPads as well).
