Apple’s first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, went up for preorders yesterday morning and it’s already sold out through the end of January.
“The pre-order demand for iPhone Duo, our first foldable iPhone, has been nothing short of extraordinary,” an Apple statement reads. “We are working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers hands as quickly as possible, and we will continue accepting orders online.”
Apple announced the iPhone Duo back in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. It costs $1999 for a base model with 256 GB, and the first units sold are coming to customers next Friday, October 23. But as eager buyers quickly discovered, the shipment times quickly got pushed back, first to November, then to December. As I write this, the first new orders won’t arrive until January 27, 2027, but it’s reasonable to think this will extend even further into the future.
As I wrote in this week’s Ask Paul, I did preorder an iPhone Duo, though I waited a few minutes past the opening of preorders to try and make sure it didn’t arrive while we are in Mexico (we fly there Tuesday and come back November 20). We’ll see how that timing goes, but whether I keep the order will depend on whether any of the early reviews raise issues I’m not aware of.
Anyway, if you do have your eye on an iPhone Duo, you’re now looking at over a three month wait.
