Surface Pro (2017) Gets Massive Set of Firmware Updates Too

As we saw with Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 4, Microsoft’s newest Surface Pros have now received a mammoth collection of firmware updates too. And the major impetus for this release, again, is to help mitigate the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

The updates apply to both models of the 2017 Surface Pro.

“We released updates for Surface Pro (Model 1796) and Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (Model 1807) devices running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, version 1709 or greater to Windows Update,” Microsoft’s Scott McArthur explains.

As with all Surface firmware updates, customers can choose to update normally via Windows Update or use Microsoft-provided MSI-based installers aimed at IT pros. This time around, however, McArthur warns that those going the MSI route will need to pay attention to the order in which these updates are installed. Those who use Windows Update don’t need to worry about this, as the updates will automatically be installed in the correct order.

Here’s what’s new. It looks like basically every single driver.
