Amazon Prime Video Adds Dialogue Boost Accessibility Feature

Amazon has started rolling out a new Dialogue Boost accessibility feature on its Prime Video app. As its name suggests, Dialogue Boost will raise dialogue volume levels on Prime Video content, and the feature offers two different levels for users who are hard of hearing.

As of this writing, Dialogue Boost is only available on select Amazon Originals TV shows and movies in English. The list of supported content includes Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Harlem, as well as the movies The Big Sick, Beautiful Boy, and Being the Ricardos.

Dialogue Boost is an AI-powered feature and all the processing happens in the cloud. That’s why it’s available on all platforms where the Prime Video app is available, and the detail page for supported shows indicates whether the feature is available.

“Dialogue Boost analyzes the original audio in a movie or series and intelligently identifies points where dialogue may be hard to hear above background music and effects. Then, speech patterns are isolated and audio is enhanced to make the dialogue clearer, “the company explained.

According to Amazon, Dialogue Boost will help to democratize audio technology that used to be only available on high-end audio equipment or smart TVs. The company plans to add Dialogue Boost support for more content on Prime Video later this year.
