Adobe Announces Major Advances for Firefly Generative AI

At its Adobe MAX conference today, Adobe announced a stunning list of improvements to its Firefly generative AI capabilities that span all of its major products.

“Our rapid, continuous pace of Firefly innovation continues with imaging, design and vector generation advancements – three new models that set new industry standards for output quality and user control,” Adobe CTO of Digital Media Ely Greenfield said. “Firefly continues to offer the world’s best combination of visual capabilities, designed to be commercially safe, enables transformative new creative workflows across Adobe apps.”

Adobe also reported that users have generated over 3 billion images with Firefly so far, with one billion in the last month alone. This makes Firefly the most popular AI image generation model designed for safe commercial use, it says.

Key among the new advances from Adobe are:

Three new generative AI models. Adobe significantly improved the quality of images that can be created with its initial Firefly generative AI model (think DALLE-3 levels of quality). But it also added two models, the Firefly Vector Model, which is the world’s first generative AI model for vector graphics, and is available in Illustrator, and the Firefly Design Model to create templates for social media posts, marketing assets, and more in Adobe Express.

Major update to Adobe Creative Cloud (CC). Adobe’s flagship suite of creative products brings over 100 new features across Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and more. And of course many of these features are AI-based and Firefly-powered, like the new text-to-vector feature in Illustrator, the lens blur feature in Photoshop, and the text-based editing features in Premiere Pro.

Photoshop on the web. Photoshop on the web with Firefly-powered Generative Fill and Generative Expand capabilities is now available, including on Google Chromebook Plus devices (with a CC subscription).

Adobe Express. Adobe’s entry-level design solution picks up Firefly copilot features like Generative Fill so that users can insert, remove, or replace objects, people, and more in any image using just a description. There are also new Text to Template generative AI capabilities built on the new Firefly Design Model, new Drawing and Painting capabilities, and new student-friendly drawing templates available in Express for Education.
