Apple Music App on Windows Now Supports Dolby Atmos Audio

Apple has updated its Apple Music app on Windows to add support for Dolby Atmos audio playback (via MacRumors). The app will show a Dolby icon on albums available in Dolby Atmos, but playing these tracks in the spatial audio format requires Windows users to get the Dolby Access app from the Microsoft Store.

Apple Music is one of the rare music streaming services to offer a library of songs in spatial audio along with Amazon Music and Tidal. It’s already possible to Dolby Atmos tracks on supported iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Android devices, and for Windows users, Dolby Atmos playback works on stereo headphones and speakers.

To listen to Apple Music tracks in Dolby Atmos on Windows, you’ll need to click the Actions button at the top of the sidebar, then choose Settings. From there, you can either choose to play supported songs in Dolby Atmos or choose Dolby Atmos audio quality when downloading songs.

Music tracks mixed in Dolby Atmos offer a more immersive three-dimensional sound, and you may need some time to get used to it. Apple Music offers different playlists with music available in Dolby Atmos to help users discover this spatial audio format, and the company is reportedly encouraging artists to release songs in Dolby Atmos with better royalty payments.
