Spotify’s AI DJ, which is currently available in more than 60 markets, is now taking music requests. Spotify Premium members can now use their voice to just ask for the kind of music they want to hear at that moment, and the AI DJ will update the personalized listening session in real time.
“DJ can handle a combination of genre, mood, artist, or activity-related requests,” the Spotify team explained. “For example, you could try, “Surprise me with some indie tracks I’ve never heard before,” or “Give me some electronic beats for a midday run.” You could even request something like, “Play me some cry-in-the-car songs.”
When Spotify’s AI DJ is playing music, users can request specific tunes by pressing and holding the DJ button in the right-hand corner of the app. The Spotify team noted that the AI DJ doesn’t accept non-music-related requests such as audiobooks or podcasts.
Spotify’s AI DJ is still in beta, and DJ requests are currently only available in English for Spotify Premium members where DJ is already available. A Spanish version of the AI-powered DJ launched back in July 2024, and it will likely add support for music requests soon.
According to Spotify, DJ listener engagement has “nearly doubled over the past year.” The company’s AI-powered DJ is pretty unique in the music streaming landscape, and the company believes that the feature can really help to improve real-time music discovery.
