Spotify Adds Podcasts Following Feed on Mobile

Spotify is making it easier to keep track of new podcast episodes on its mobile app. Instead of tapping their profile icon in the top left corner of the app to access the “What’s new” section, podcast listeners can now check the new “Following” feed within their main Podcast feed on the Home page.

“We’re bringing all of your favorite podcast episodes from the shows you follow into one place within the Podcasts Following feed,” the company explained. “With this new update, you can effortlessly stay plugged in and up-to-date with the creators you love most.”

Spotify’s mobile app will also start showing recommendations for podcasts and video podcasts on its mobile Home page to improve content discovery. For some shows, the app will also add a short note to tell users why they should be interested in its recommendations.

Lastly, podcast episode pages will soon add a new “In this episode” section where podcast creators can detail other content mentioned in the episode. That can be other podcasts, songs, audiobooks, playlists, and more that listeners can find on Spotify. This new feature will start rolling out globally in the coming weeks.

Earlier this month, Spotify also started rolling out public play counts on podcast episodes, but the company had to tweak the feature following some pushback from content creators. After listening to feedback, Spotify made its play counts only show incremental milestones once an episode reaches 50K plays, 100K, and so on.
