Google is launching its more affordable YouTube Premium Lite plan in two new markets today, France and Singapore. The cheaper plan was first launched in the US at $7.99/month earlier this year, and it provides an ad-free experience on most YouTube videos.
YouTube Premium Lite is priced at €7.99/month in France and S$7.98 per month in Singapore, which is nearly half the price of the regular YouTube Premium subscription in both markets. Most YouTube videos are ad-free with YouTube Premium Lite, except music videos. Last month, Google also started showing ads in Shorts videos and when users search or browse.
The cheaper YouTube subscription also doesn’t include YouTube Music Premium and video downloads and background play on YouTube. While YouTube Music Premium may not be essential for users who already pay for Spotify or other music streaming services, the absence of other Premium features like background play is unfortunate.
Overall, YouTube Premium Lite is now available in a total of 19 markets globally. The list includes the US, Australia, Germany, Thailand, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Turkey, Poland, France, Romania, Spain, Italy, Taiwan, Singapore, Chile, and Colombia. Google plans to make YouTube Premium Lite available in more markets in the future.
