Spotify is giving users more control over their listening experience with the ability to exclude individual tracks from their music recommendations. The company acknowledged that users’ listening habits may change over time, and there may come a moment when the Spotify algorithm may spoil the mood.
“You’ve already been able to exclude select playlists from your Taste Profile, and now you can do the same for any track, whether it’s a calming sleep sound, your kids’ go-to song, or a one-off listen that doesn’t fit your usual vibe,” the company explained yesterday.
The wording in the Spotify blog post suggests that excluding a track may not completely prevent it from being picked up by the algorithm. The company said that the new feature will “lessen the impact of both past and future streams of that song on your recommendations, so your “just for the moment” listening doesn’t end up skewing your Spotify experience.”
To exclude a track from their Taste Profile, Spotify users just need to tap the three dots button on the right corner of the screen and choose “Exclude from your Taste Profile.” The option to add it back will always remain available. The process for excluding playlists from Taste Profiles is similar.
