Disney+ Now Supports HDR10+ on Samsung Smart TVs and Monitors

Disney+

Disney+ is the latest streaming service to embrace HDR10+, the evolution of the HDR10 standard that improves image quality using metadata per scene. And it’s doing so on select smart TVs and PC monitors from Samsung, which is the biggest supporter of the HD10+ standard.

“HDR10+ revolutionizes the way we enjoy content, offering enhanced contrast and more vivid colors for an unparalleled viewing experience,” stated Inbeom Kim, Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are delighted to introduce this technology onto Disney+ and remain committed to collaborating with various partners to broaden HDR10+ support across our product range and the wider streaming landscape.”

HDR10+ is the royalty-free alternative to Dolby Vision HDR, which most smart TV manufacturers support except for Samsung. While HDR10+ isn’t as popular as Dolby Vision, Netflix added support for the standard back in March, while other streaming services like Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video did so many years ago.

As of today, Disney+ offers over 1,000 Hulu titles in HDR10+ within the Disney+ app, and the streaming service plans to enable the advanced high dynamic range technology on more Disney+ and Hulu content coming in the future. HDR10+ content on Disney+ will be available on Samsung Crystal UHD TVs from 2018 onward, as well as the company’s recent Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, OLED, The Frame Pro, The Frame, and QLED TVs.
