Spotify is Reportedly Planning US Price Increase Early Next Year

Spotify is reportedly planning to raise the price of its Premium subscriptions in the US in the first quarter of 2026, the Financial Times reported yesterday. This will be the first price bump in the US since June 2024, when Spotify Premium, Duo, and Family plans all became more expensive.

In recent months, Spotify raised its prices in various countries including the UK, Australia, and Pakistan (including the UK, Australia, and Pakistan. The company also added new AI features to its Premium subscriptions, and it finally introduced lossless streaming in September at no additional cost.

However, you can’t reasonably expect subscription services not to raise their prices as they gradually add new features. According to the Financial Times, “the major record labels have been pressing Spotify, Apple Music and other music-streaming platforms to increase their fees, arguing prices have lagged inflation and subscriptions remain cheap compared with video services such as Netflix.”

While Spotify Premium may soon become more expensive in the US, the company also made its free offering much better two months ago. Previously, mobile users were restricted to shuffle playback, but they can now search and listen to any song they want, though there’s still a daily allocated amount of on-demand time.
