I hate to be that guy, but Paul…

It's Queen Anne, not Queen's Anne. Queen Anne is also north of downtown.

Pine Box is not in Queen Anne; rather on Capitol Hill, a few short blocks east of the convention center and easily walkable. And Pine Box is an excellent bar and one of my absolute favorites in Seattle. Great choice Mary Jo!

The problem with your suggestion about an Android "Surface" is that it's just crap. They're not going to get into phones again, and there's just no way Android can be turned into a decent Microsoft platform. I read your "Android for the Windows guy" articles and even was stupid enough to pick up an Android phone to try all that out. I have found it's IMPOSSIBLE to make that platform into a decent Windows Mobile replacement. Launcher is a joke and doesn't work very well, PLUS you just get more of the stupid sea of icons. Cortana is completely lame, having virtually NONE of capability I love on my Lumia devices. Just navigating Android is an unintuitive juggernaut and is user-spiteful. Apps are a hodgepodge of crappy design and horrible user experiences. It's impossible to completely eliminate all the Google crap and just use Microsoft-only apps (e.g., you can't use Groove as your default music player, you can't configure OneDrive as your default storage, nor can you change its location to the SD card). And, again, Cortana is just another app, no matter what you do. I rely HEAVILY on Cortana in 100% hands-free mode on all devices, which you can't do on Android. Worst of all, no live tiles. I HATE ICONS. And Microsoft doesn't even have its own solution for this. I've tried to use some of the "emulation" apps. They're all horrific and lame.

In order for your suggestion to have a prayer Microsoft would have to find a way to strip out all the Google crap and make a more Windows-like user experience with none of the downside. And they're just not going to do it.
