A few years ago I got my father a Chromebook because it’s all he needs. It’s still pretty snappy, the OS is lite which is nice. I’m guessing this is what Windows 10X was supposed to be, but since they stopped it, these low-cost notebooks will be running full windows, which runs crappy on low-end hardware. They should have continued 10X and just put it on low-end hardware, then they could have had a contender for ChromeOS.

The biggest challenge is that it’s still called Windows which creates a set of expectations – they needed a new name for the OS.
