Tips and picks

Tip of the week: The simplified ribbon comes to Office, sort of

I’ve been waiting YEARS for this

Plus: Quick update on Windows 11 Field Guide progressyou can find the web version here

App pick of the week: Microsoft PC Manager

It’s like CCleaner for your PC! (But is it, really? Or is it just another bundle of things that already exist in Windows, presented in a better way?)

Enterprise pick of the week: UUP

It’s been a while since Microsoft talked about the Unified Update Platform (UUP). But this week UUP hit public preview. The UUP is the vehicle Microsoft will be using, as of early 2023, to provide Windows with updates. Now would be a good time for IT pros to kick the tires….

Codename pick of the week: Surface ‘Project AH’

Volterra is the “official” codename for the Windows Dev Kit 2023 device launched this week. But there may be another codename for it, too, WC’s Zac Bowden says: Surface Project AH. Now the question is: What does AH stand for??

Beer pick of the week: Nightmare Brewing Sororicide

Halloween beer pick time! Nightmare Brewing in Bayshore, NY makes a lot of crazy big imperial stouts. Today’s pick is called “Sororicide” — no diss to my sisters. It has honey roasted peanuts, peanut butter, vanilla and cacao. Surprisingly not too peanuty and not too sweet. Tastes almost barrel aged. A perfect 15.5% choice for my last official WW beer pick as a cohost!
