New OnePlus Watch 2 Promises “Transformed” Smartwatch Experience

OnePlus Watch 2

OnePlus has officially announced its comeback to the smartwatch market with the OnePlus Watch 2. The OnePlus Watch 1, which was released back in April 2021, provided long battery life at a low $159 price, but its simplistic OS lacked support for third-party apps.

“We are more confident than ever about this product and this confidence is not unfounded,” the company boldly claimed today. “Built on a foundation of substantial advancements in our technological ecosystem and capabilities, the OnePlus Watch 2 indicates our determination to transform from “Flagship Killer” to “Ecosystem builder”. It will provide you with experience that’s not just improved, but transformed.”

The OnePlus Watch 2 will get an official presentation next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Today’s teaser is very generous in superlatives, with the company promising “unparalleled reliability” and “exceptional user experience.”

While we don’t know yet what kind of operating system the OnePlus Watch 2 will run, the company explained that it “went back to the drawing board” and took user feedback into account when designing the new smartwatch. We also learned that the OnePlus Watch 2 will deliver up to 100 hours of battery life when it’s in “full Smart Mode.” However, it’s not clear if this is another name for battery-saver mode or something else entirely.

On the design front, the OnePlus Watch 2 will feature a stainless steel chassis and sapphire glass over the display. It will also be available in two finishes, Black Steel and Radiant Steel.

Over the years, OnePlus built its reputation with a “flagship killer” promise that doesn’t always live up to the hype. With its upcoming smartwatch, however, the wants to solidify its status as an “ecosystem builder” with various accessories matching the design and quality of its phones.
