Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 22H2 Builds for Beta Channel Testers

Microsoft has just released two new Windows 11 22H2 builds for Insiders in the Beta channel. A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft split this channel into two different groups for A/B testing purposes, but the builds 22621.450 and 22622.450 that are rolling out today include the same set of fixes and improvements for all testers in the Beta channel.

The most notable changes in today’s builds are related to security and networking. “We enhanced Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s ability to identify and intercept ransomware and advanced attacks,” the Windows Insider team highlighted in the release notes.

On the networking front, these builds improve how storage replication works over low bandwidth and congested wide area networks. When enabled, the Server Message Block (SMB) compression feature has also been improved to compress a file regardless of its size.

These two builds also fix an issue that was causing Windows to display tablet mode features for some devices that do not have touchscreens. That may not be immediately visible, but the Windows Insider team also said that today’s updates also include “improvements to how we apply updates on top of each other.”

If today’s updates for Beta channel Insiders don’t include flashy new features, the previous builds released on July 28 did: One group of Insiders received the same taskbar overflow feature that Microsoft previously tested with Dev Channel Insiders, and Microsoft also rolled out a redesigned “Open with” dialog box to all testers.
