Windows 11 Insider Build 25262 Drops Sign-In Requirement For Widgets Board

Microsoft has just released the Windows 11 preview build 25262 for Insiders in the Dev channel, which is a rare Friday flight. The main change in this build is that the Widgets board can now be used on Windows 11 without being signed into a Microsoft account.

“In the most recent update for Widgets, we are removing the sign-in requirement for the widgets board and making it available for all users. Now, you can now get weather updates on the taskbar, pin widgets from your favorite apps or access personalized dynamic feed without an account,” the Windows Insider team explained today.

The Windows 11 Insider build 25262 also brings a new link to Quick Assist at the bottom of Settings > System > Troubleshooters. There are also various bug fixes for the taskbar, system tray, and Windows Search, and Microsoft also fixed a bug causing File Explorer to crash when accessing the Recent section.

Starting today, Microsoft is also rolling out an update for the Windows 11 Media Player app to all Insiders on the Dev channel. This update adds a new shortcut for browsing through your video library by folder.

In case you missed it yesterday, a new screen recording feature in Snipping Tool is also available for Dev Channel testers. This should be a nice addition to the inbox app that already lets you capture screenshots on Windows 11.

Lastly, the December 2022 Bug Bash is still ongoing this week, which also explains why there’s a new Dev Channel flight today. Insiders have until December 12 to complete some quests to help the Windows Insider team get feedback on new Windows 11 features.
