Windows 11 Insider Build 25300 Adds More Live Captions Languages

The Windows 11 Insider build 25300 is now available to download for testers in the Dev Channel. With this build, Microsoft is introducing live captions in more languages, and the company is also experimenting with different ways to make snap layouts more discoverable.

Live captions is a new feature in Windows 11 version 22H2 that can provide captions for all audio that’s playing on a Windows 11 PC. At launch, English was the only supported language, but the build 25300 adds captions in Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and other English dialects. “We will add more languages as they become available,” the Windows Insider team said today.

In today’s build 25300, Microsoft is introducing different treatments for snap layouts, the Windows 11 feature that lets users easily snap app windows to optimize their screen space. This is really a power user feature that many Windows 11 users may not know about, and Microsoft apparently wants to change that.

“We are investigating ways to improve the discoverability and usage of the snap layouts such as decreasing the hover time required to invoke the flyout when you mouse over the maximum/restore button in an app’s title bar. In addition to a few other tweaks, you’ll notice some treatments will also pull in the icon of the app window you are working in and adding a descriptive title,” the Windows Insider team explained.

Two other changes are worth mentioning in this build: First of all, the ability to sync voice typing settings across devices signed in with the same Microsoft account is now available for all Dev Channel Insiders. Lastly, users who launch the inbox version of Windows Subsystem for Linux, which has now been removed, will now be automatically prompted to install the new WSL app from the Microsoft Store.
