New Windows 11 Canary, Dev, and Beta Builds Are Out With Minor Changes

Windows 11 PCs

This is pretty rare, but Microsoft has just released a trio of new Windows 11 Insider builds. New bits are available for Insiders on the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels, though changes are pretty minor across the board.

Let’s start with the Canary Channel: The Windows 11 build 25841 makes some changes to the Dynamic refresh rate feature, which can dynamically adjust the refresh rate of your screen to save power. In this build, the feature can now be enabled via a toggle in Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.

This build also introduces a small UI change, with some refresh rates now showing an asterisk to warn users that their display resolution will need to be changed to one that supports their selected refresh rate. “This behavior happens when there are limitations due to the cable or the display’s capabilities and is not new, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of it,” the Windows Insider team explained.

There are a couple of other notable changes in this build: The graph at the top of the Power & Battery page in Settings has been removed, and Microsoft has also fixed an issue causing the Settings app to crash when looking at detailed battery usage. Lastly, the recently updated Cast flyout in Quick Settings now shows links to support resources.

Moving on to the Windows 11 build 23536 for Dev Channel testers, the new bits just bring a couple of bug fixes. Microsoft fixed an issue causing Task Manager to crash when using the end task option in the Details page, and another bug causing the taskbar to not appear correctly after powering on devices has also been addressed.

Let’s finish with the Windows 11 build 22631.2265 for Beta Channel Insiders: Microsoft is bringing the 3D emoji already available in Microsoft Teams to Windows 11, with support coming soon to some apps and browsers. Additionally, the new Settings homepage that Microsoft started rolling out to Beta Channel testers last week should now be available for everyone.

If you’re on the Beta Channel and you’re not seeing today’s build in Windows Update, you’re not alone. The Windows Insider team just acknowledged the issue and said that it’s investigating.
