Copilot in Windows and Other 23H2 Features Starts Rolling Out to Release Preview Insiders

Windows 11 Fall update copilot

Windows Insiders on the Release Preview Ring can download the Windows 11 build 22621.2361 today, which includes the new Copilot AI Assistant and other new features coming with Windows 11 version 23H2 later this quarter. Microsoft is delivering Copilot in Windows and other new features via a Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR), so you’ll need to have the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available turned ON in Windows Update to get them.

In addition to Copilot, the modernized File Explorer, new text authoring experiences to voice access, new natural voices in Narrator, and Windows Backup are also rolling out to Insiders with the aforementioned toggle enabled. “A more complete list of features will be shared next week on Sept. 26th,” the team said.

September 26 is when these features will become available in preview for non-Insiders, and that should happen with the optional update for Windows 11 version 22H2. Then, the public rollout should kick off with next month’s Patch Tuesday on October 10.

Microsoft spent a lot of time discussing Copilot in Windows yesterday, but the flagship feature won’t be available in all markets. In a blog post published on the Windows IT Pro blog yesterday, the company mentioned that Windows 11 users in Europe, Russia, Belarus, and China won’t have access to it. It’s not exactly clear why the AI assistant won’t be available in Europe, but the EU Commission recently designating Windows as a “core platform service” that needs to be regulated may well have something to do with it.
