New Windows 11 Dev Channel Build Makes Copilot Accessible from Alt + Tab

Windows 11 Fall update copilot

Microsoft has just released the Windows 11 preview build 23560 for Insiders on the Dev Channel, which brings a pretty big change to how Copilot in Windows works. Starting with this build, Microsoft is rolling out the ability to access Copilot using the Alt + Tab hotkey.

“We’re beginning to roll out the ability to use Copilot in Windows with ALT + TAB. Using the ALT + TAB hotkey now displays the thumbnail preview for Copilot in Windows among the other thumbnail previews of open windows, which you can switch between by pressing Tab,” the blog post reads.

The Windows Insider team didn’t indicate if this behavior could be disabled, but if you use Copilot and don’t want to see it appear next to other apps in Alt + Tab, you should mention it in the Feedback Hub. Microsoft previously added Edge tabs to Alt + Tab on Windows 11, which is another thing that some users may find distractive.

Copilot in Windows is still in preview, and it’s currently only available in North America, the UK, and parts of Asia and South America. Microsoft said that it’s planning to expand it to other markets over time, but there’s no ETA for users based in Europe yet.

Today’s build 23560 also brings two improvements for the new version of File Explorer: Microsoft fixed a bug causing the dropdowns and context menus to have a transparent background, and another where the search box wasn’t showing the correct folder name when you were in Gallery has also been fixed.
