Windows Tips App is Now Deprecated

The Windows Tips app is joining the list of deprecated features that Microsoft announced last week following the release of Windows 11 version 23H2. The Windows Tips currently ships on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and it’s designed to help users discover Windows features they didn’t know about.

“The Tips app is deprecated and will be removed in a future release of Windows,” Microsoft explained in its updated documentation (via Windows Central). “Content in the app will continue to be updated with information about new Windows features until the app is removed.

The Windows Tips app is an inbox app that can’t be uninstalled. As of this writing, it has a 3.8 rating on the Microsoft Store, and the first comment I can read is a complaint about the app not respecting default browser choices and opening all external links in Microsoft Edge.

While this Tips app is not the most intrusive or obnoxious Microsoft app on Windows PCs, it probably doesn’t get enough usage for the company to keep investing in it. That’s because the average Windows user is most likely to check Google instead of this app to learn more about the OS.

This year, Microsoft has deprecated a couple of other well-known apps, such as the decades-old WordPad word processor and the Cortana app. The latter has now been replaced by Copilot in Windows, a new AI assistant that uses the same generative AI technology as Microsoft’s Bing chatbot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Copilot in Windows is one of the main new features in Windows 11 version 23H2, and it can also give you Windows tips or even change some Windows settings for you. However, the AI assistant is currently only available in North America, some parts of Asia, and South America.
