Microsoft Starts Pushing Windows 11 Version 23H2 to More Devices

Windows 11 2023 Update 23H2

Microsoft said this week that it has started pushing Windows 11 version 23H2, the latest major update for the OS, to more Windows 11 users. The announcement was made on the Windows Health Dashboard (via Windows Central), which is were the company details the rollout status of the latest Windows release.

“Windows 11, version 23H2, also known as the Windows 11 2023 Update, is now entering a new rollout phase,” the company said. “We are starting to update eligible Windows 11 devices automatically to version 23H2. This automatic update targets Windows 11 devices that have reached or are approaching end of servicing and it follows the machine learning-based (ML) training we have utilized so far.”

Windows 11 version 23H2 was released on October 31, 2023, and it shares the same codebase as the version 22H2 of the OS released a year before. Microsoft rolled out its new Copilot assistant on both versions of Windows 11 last fall, and the 23H2 update only introduced a couple of minor changes such as Microsoft Teams (free) replacing the “Chat” app that shipped with Windows 11. Windows 11 version 23H2 also added a New Systems Components page in Settings, as well as a “system” label for system components in the All apps view of the Start Menu.

If Windows 11 version 22H2 will reach end of support for Home and Pro users on October 8, 2024, the version 23H2 will get mainstream support until November 11, 2025. Windows 11 version 24H2, which will be coming later this year with more AI features, will once again reboot the support cycle with 24 months of support for Home and Pro users and 36 months of support for the Enterprise and Education editions.
