Windows 11 Insider Build 27718 is Now Available for Canary Testers

Windows 11 PC with Start Menu

Microsoft has released today the Windows 11 Insider build 27718 for Insiders on the Canary channel. This new build brings a couple of new features that Microsoft previously introduced on other channels, including the redesigned media controls on the lock screen, and the ability to drag apps from the Pinned section of the Start Menu to the taskbar.

Here are the other notable changes in this build:

First letter navigation in taskbar: When keyboard focus is set to the taskbar, users can now press a letter to jump to the open or pinned app whose name starts with that letter.

Windows Share search box: Microsoft is removing the search box in the Windows Share window to simplify the UI.

Energy Saver notifications: For users with laptops running on battery, a notification will now pop up asking them to plug in their laptop if the battery level reaches 20% while Energy Saver is set to “Always On.”

Touch screen gestures: The Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touch page is getting new section for touch screen edge gestures, where users can disable the left or right screen edge touch gesture.

The Windows 11 Insider build 27718 also fixes an issue that was causing File Explorer crashes when moving windows in the last two Canary builds. Another issue causing certain apps like Media Player to crash when playing audio was also addressed.

Microsoft said that it would start testing an updated, more secure version of its Recall feature with Insiders on Copilot+ PCs in October. Yesterday, the company announced that more Copilot+ features including Click to Do, an AI-powered search experience in File Explorer, and more will enter public testing with Insiders in November.
