Microsoft has released today the Windows 11 Canary build 27744, which improves Microsoft’s Prism emulator for Copilot+ PCs with the addition of more CPU features under emulation. This will make it possible for Insiders to run more 64-bit x86 (x64) applications that didn’t work before due to an unsupported CPU.
“This new support in Prism is already in limited use today in the retail version of Windows 11, version 24H2, where it enables the ability to run Adobe Premiere Pro 25 on Arm,” the Windows Insider team explained today. ”Starting with Build 27744, the support is being opened to any x64 application under emulation. You may find some games or creative apps that were blocked due to CPU requirements before will be able to run using Prism on this build of Windows.”
These new CPU features in Microsoft’s Prism emulator, which include support for AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, F16C, and other extensions to the x86 instruction set architecture can only be used by x64 apps. “If you have a 32-bit app or a 64-bit app that uses a 32-bit helper to detect CPU feature support, that app won’t detect the new features in Prism,” the Windows Insider team explained.
Today’s Windows 11 Canary build 27744 also enables the new Gamepad keyboard layout for the Windows 11 on-screen keyboard that supports Xbox controller input. The design of the Disconnect and Logoff dialogs in Task Manager have also been updated to support dark mode and text scaling, and the Performance section of the app nows label listed disks with their type.
Windows Insiders on the Canary Channel can also start testing new generative AI features in Paint and Notepad today. Paint is getting Generative fill and Generative erase features, while Notepad can now help users to rewrite text and change its tone and length.
