Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Canary Build 27842

Windows 11 PC

Microsoft is finally dropping a new Windows 11 preview build on the Canary Channel. The last flight on this Channel was a month ago with a bug-fixing update, and today’s build 27842 brings the new green error screen that was previously rolled out to other channels.

This new green screen for unexpected restarts introduces an updated UI, with technical information appearing at the bottom. Microsoft says that this new experience “better aligns with Windows 11 design principles and supports our goal of getting users back into productivity as fast as possible.”

In this build, the Windows Security app has also been updated to show more details about Pluton TPM chips under Device security > Security processor details. The new build also removes the bypassnro.cmd script that allowed users to complete the setup of their PC without configuring a Microsoft account.

The Canary build 27842 also fixes various bugs, including an issue where some JPG images were not displayed correctly. Microsoft is also working to fix an issue causing night light to not work for some Insiders after the latest flight.

The Windows Insider Canary Channel is in a strange place right now, as it has yet to receive the new Windows Recall feature that will soon become available on Copilot+ PCs. The Windows Insider team continues to say that Channel delivers “the latest platform changes early in the development cycle,” but it’s clearly not the best choice if you’re eager to test new features.
