As expected, Microsoft is making Windows 10 available in ISO form, so you can download the installer and perform a clean install of this new OS. What wasn’t expected was the timing: you don’t have to wait, as the ISO download is now available. And this means you don’t actually have to wait for your Windows 10 reservation to arrive too.
I know you’ve been waiting on this one, so here’s the download link: Download Windows 10.
This download lets you create installation media for Windows 10, in Home and Pro variants, and in 32-bit or 64-bit form, on USB or DVD. That means it’s not quite as sophisticated as the Windows 10 retail media, which provides both 32-bit and 64-bit installs from a single USB stick. But then these downloads are much smaller as a result as well. You only need to download the version you need.
As with Windows 8.1, what Microsoft is providing here is a Media Creation tool that will create the setup media for you or just snag the ISO. But this tool can also be used to upgrade your existing install, which is interesting.
If you choose the second option, you can then choose your language, edition (Windows 10 Home, Pro, Home N, Home Single Language, or Pro N) and architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).
Then, you can choose to create a USB setup media directly or, better still, download the ISO. (Which can then be used to create install media on either USB or DVD).
I’m intrigued by the “Upgrade this PC now” option. This means that no one needs to actually wait for the Windows 10 reservation system to get to them. So if you want to go nuts, you can.
So go nuts. 🙂
