For those of you who have not joined the Insider program or have machines that are not on the Fast or Slow rings, today is the day you can finally get all the new features Microsoft has been building for the last several months. The update is available now via Windows Update to all 350+ million Windows 10 users.
If you are planning to install the update today, keep in mind that depending on the specs of your machine, it may take a decent amount of time for the update to install. It’s best to be prepared for at least an hour of down time while the update downloads and installs.
The easiest way to install the update is to search for it via Windows Update; from when I clicked search for updates to when the installation was completed took 32 minutes.
Considering that the last few builds of Windows 10 from the Insider program have been stable and no major issues have been reported, it should be safe for you to install this release on your daily driver. While issues are not expected, when you release an update to hundreds of millions of users, even a small glitch can get amplified quickly and impact a large number of users.
Let us know if you run into any issues and we will be watching the support forums closely for any wide-scale issues. If you are looking for everything that is new, you can check out a review of the new update, here.
