Windows 11 Field Guide is Updated for Moment 2

Just a quick update to let you know I’ve updated the Windows 11 Field Guide to account for the relevant changes that arrived today in the Moment 2 update for Windows 11 version 22H2.

(Right now, the changes have only been applied to the eBook version, but I’ve uploaded the new images to Thurrott.com and will be updating the web version here this week as well. This was a lot more work than I’d anticipated.)

The main changes are in the What’s New and Familiar in Windows 11, Taskbar, Widgets, and Search chapters:

  • As an introductory chapter, What’s New and Familiar in Windows 11 discusses the Taskbar, Widgets, and Search, and so each of those sections was updated as needed.
  • The Taskbar chapter was updated to handle the new Search box, the new notifications area overlay pop-up, and the new Taskbar settings interface.
  • The Widgets chapter was extensively updated. There is new content about Full View and customizing Widgets. And every existing screenshot was replaced, and I added a few more.
  • The Search chapter was also extensively updated. I replaced every screenshot and updated the content to accommodate the changes in Moment 2.

There are other Moment 2 changes that will impact the book in the future, but since those chapters aren’t written yet, I don’t have to deal with them now.

Thanks! –Paul
