Weeks after it paused the release of Windows 11 24H2 in Release Preview, Microsoft today paused the deployment of another pre-release Windows 11 build.
“We have temporarily paused the rollout of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26236 in the Canary Channel,” Microsoft writes in an addition to its original post for that build. “We will resume flights to the Canary Channel shortly.”
Microsoft issued Windows 11 build 26236 to the Canary channel one week ago, on June 12. It added a new account manager feature in the Start menu, a Microsoft Store update, and some other small changes.
But just as Microsoft paused Windows 11 24H2 because of the Recall drama–it later reissued that build, minus Recall, last weekend–it appears that the Canary build is being paused for the same reason: Enthusiasts were installing it to gain access to the Recall code that was hidden inside it.
Because this is the Insider Program, it’s most likely that we’ll simply get a newer build within the next few days and not the same build. But whatever happens, I suspect there won’t be any usable Recall code inside. I’m told that’s the point.
