Microsoft has been on a tear updating Notepad, and now it’s adding an updated context menu that’s more consistent with Windows 11.
News of this change comes via Deskmodder, which speculates that we’ll see the new context menu appear in a Windows Insider build sometime soon. But it also provides instructions for enabling this new feature in the shipping version of Windows 11 version 24H2 today. So I gave it a shot.
Here’s what the Notepad context menu looks like today.

And here’s what the updated version will look like soon enough. As you can see, it resembles the updated Explorer context menu with its row of labeled icons at the top, significantly cutting down on the size of the menu while retaining the clarity.

Like the many other recent updates to Notepad, this is nicely done and quite welcome. Bravo!
