Microsoft Delivers Minor New Dev and Beta Builds to Insiders

Windows Insider Program

Not much to see here, but those with a PC enrolled in the Dev or Beta channel have a new build to install.

Those on Dev can download and install preview update KB5074178 to upgrade Windows 11 version 25H2 to build 26300.7733. Those on Beta can grab preview update KB5074177 to upgrade Windows 11 version 25H2 to build 26220.7752.

In both cases, there is just a single new feature: The native Sysmon functionality that Mark Russinovich promised back in November. This tool has been part of Mark’s Sysinternals family of utilities for years, helping admins and IT pros help detect credential theft, uncover stealthy lateral movement, and power forensic investigations. Sysmon is difficult to install, so integrating it with Windows should make life easier for those who need it. Once you install one of these builds, you can enable it by opening the Settings app, navigating to System > Optional features > More Windows features and finding Sysmon in the list. Then, you need to run Sysmon -i from Terminal.

Beyond that, these builds just deliver fixes across File Explorer, Voice Access, OneDrive, and Outlook.

You can learn more about Sysmon on Microsoft Learn.
