Microsoft Issues Windows 11 Preview Updates for Week D

Week D

It’s that time of the month again and Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1 are all getting new features in a preview of April’s Patch Tuesday updates.

Preview Update KB5079391 is available for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, and will update those systems to builds 26100.8116 and 26200.8116, respectively, when installed. Each of these Windows 11 versions will get the same new features and changes in preview. Some of the key improvements include:

  • Rich image descriptions in Narrator (via Controlled Feature Release, or CFR)
  • The ability to toggle Smart App Control on and off without reinstalling the OS (via CFR)
  • Updates to the pen tail button configuration in Pen settings (via CFR)
  • Various other small changes to Settings (via CFR)
  • Voice typing and other small changes to File Explorer (via CFR)
  • Various display reliability improvements (via CFR)
  • Improved natural voices in Narrator
  • Windows Recovery Environment (WRE) stability improvements when running x64 apps on Windows 11 on Arm

Preview Update KB5079489 is likewise available for Windows 11 version 26H1, which is literally not available to anyone on earth, and it will update that system to build 28000.1764. This one is barely worth discussing, but it includes Emoji 16.0, Quick Machine Recovery improvements, a built-in (sort of) network speed test, and other changes, all via CFR, and all available previously in released versions of Windows 11.
