Microsoft Issues Four Insider Builds Across Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels

Windows Insider Program

Microsoft just announced major changes to the Windows Insider Program, but this ain’t it. Instead, it has released four new preview builds of Windows 11 to the existing Canary, Dev, and Beta channels. Those changes are happening “in the coming weeks.”

Here’s what’s new.

Canary

Those with PCs enrolled in the Canary channel can download KB5083824, which will upgrade them to Windows 11 build 28020.1812. “This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs,” Microsoft notes, but there are some notable changes:

  • Touchpad settings improvements. You can choose how large the right-click zone size is using default, small, medium, and large settings.
  • Drag tray improvements. The Drag tray now displays a smaller peek view “to reduce accidental invocation and make it easier to dismiss when interacting near the top of the screen.”
  • Windows Security improvements. This app now displays your Secure Boot certificate status.
  • Feedback Hub improvements. The new Feedback Hub app gets several design enhancements based on feedback.

Canary with optional build series

Those with PCs enrolled in the Canary channel who opted into the 29xxx build series can install build 29565.1000. Changes include:

  • Underlying platform changes.
  • Bubble screensaver improvements for those with high refresh rate displays.
  • The same Drag tray improvements noted above.
  • The same Windows Security improvements noted above.
  • The same Feedback Hub improvements noted above.

Dev and Beta

Those with PCs enrolled in the Dev channel can install KB5083632 and upgrade their PC to Windows 11 25H2 build 26300.8170. Those on Beta will get KB5083635, which upgrades the PC to Windows 11 25H2 build 26220.8165. Both include the following changes:

  • Storage improvements. You can now format FAT32 drives up to 2 TB in size from the command line. And there are a couple of small improvements to Storage settings in the Settings app.
  • Network improvements. The Data usage views in Network settings has been fixed.
  • The same Windows Security improvements noted above.
  • The same Feedback Hub improvements noted above.
