Microsoft Releases Two New 26H1 Builds to the Windows Insider Program

If you have a PC enrolled in the Windows Insider Program’s Beta (26H1) or Experimental (26H1), you have a new build to install. And if you do, you are likely familiar with how these builds are always behind the 25H2 (and now 26H2) builds. So there are few new features, and none are particularly interesting.

The builds are Beta (26H1) build 28020.2818 and Experimental (26H1) build 28120.2824. And unless I’m missing something, always possible, they have most of the same new features and changes:

• Personalization improvements, including DIB image support for the Desktop background, various improvements to the Personalization > Background page in Settings, support for using a slideshow on multiple displays, and some bug fixes.
• Enhancements to the Windows Recovery Environment (WRE), including a new networking capability so that it can automatically reuse eligible Wi-Fi profiles already saved in Windows 11.
• Changes to Print Management, including the temporary removal of the modernized Print Management experience so Microsoft can refine it based on feedback. The normal Print Management tools remain available, and Microsoft says it will bring back the updated Print Management experience in a future build after it makes additional improvements.
• The File Explorer Home page now preserves the state of sections (expanded or collapsed), so you can pick up where you left off.
• Various Magnifier user interface improvements, including updated icons and refined spacing and padding.
• Emoji 17.0.
• Reliability improvements to the Taskbar.

The only difference I saw was that Experimental (26H1) is also getting first launch reliability of the new WinUI-based Run dialog.
