Patch Tuesday Arrives with Minor Updates for Windows 11 22H2

Microsoft has released KB5030219, the September 2023 Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11 version 22H2. In keeping with last month, it’s a very minor update, though we are of course waiting to hear about the first 23H2 public preview.

“This update removes a blank menu item from the Sticky Keys menu. This issue occurs after you install KB5029351,” the release notes explain. “This update also addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.”

So … not much, though it also includes the improvements that Microsoft delivered with the preview version of this update in late August: a new hover behavior on the Search box in the Taskbar, minor new app default behaviors under the hood, and a new “Enable optional updates” policy for managed businesses.

Which brings me to the next set of updates. On Tuesday, September 26 in two weeks, Microsoft will deliver its next cumulative update preview for Windows 11 version 22H2. And unless the schedule has slipped, that preview update should be Windows 11 version 23H2 (“Moment 4”). To be followed by the general release on Patch Tuesday next month, on October 10.

Assuming nothing has changed, of course.
