Spotify is bringing its new Audiobooks+ add-ons to the US today after trialing them in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a couple of European markets. The two new plan options give audiobook listeners an additional 15 hours of listening each month, and they also make audiobooks available for other members on Premium Family and Duo plans.
The new Audiobooks+ add-on costs an extra $12/month in the US on top of a $12/month Spotify Premium subscription. Customers will get 15 extra hours of audiobook listening on top of the 15 free hours they already get every month with their Premium subscription.
These additional 15 hours of audiobook listening are only available for Family and Duo plan managers, but additional plan members can also request audiobook access from their plan manager. In that case, the latter will need to pay $12/month to give the Audiobooks+ add-on to the plan member who needs it. Spotify also offers a one-time 10-hour top-up at $13 for users who run out of hours during a month.
In the US, Spotify also offers a $9.99/month Audiobooks Access tier that only offers 15 hours/month of audiobook listening and no ad-free music. It’s not exactly attractive as a regular Premium subscription with the same 15 hours/month of audiobook listening is just $2 more expensive. Yesterday, Spotify also announced price increases for its Premium subscription in various markets across the world, but the US won’t be affected.
