Microsoft continues to expand the availability of Xbox Cloud Gaming, which will be coming later this year to select Hisense smart TVs running the company’s homeOS platform. The announcement comes just a year after Microsoft announced the launch of its Xbox app on LG smart TVs during CES 2024.

If you’re just learning about homeOS, this is the new name of VIDAA, Hisense’s smart TV platform developed by its VIDAA subsidiary, which has also been rebranded to just “V”. That’s why Microsoft’s announcement on Xbox Wire today mentions the upcoming availability of the Xbox app on “select Hisense and V homeOS-powered Smart TVs.”

“Partnering with V represents another step towards providing freedom and flexibility for players,” said Lori Wright, Corporate Vice President, Gaming Partnerships and Business Development at Microsoft. “By expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to even more screens globally, we’re opening new pathways for discovery, inspiration, and connection to empower players to access the games they love in new ways.”

In addition to recent LG smart TVs, Microsoft recently brought its Xbox app to select cars using LG’s webOS platform, as well as the latest Fire TV smart TVs from Amazon. Xbox Cloud Gaming is also available on Samsung’s smart TVs, and Microsoft said in November that usage of the service was up 45% year over year.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available in 29 markets around the world, and the service is now accessible with all Game Pass tiers. Microsoft recently made the Ultimate tier more attractive with the option to play select games at up to 1440p resolution, but the lack of a 4K option is unfortunate, especially now that 4K is the norm on smart TVs.
